id000042Mrs. Burnham is our first grade teacher. Katy grew up in South Bend, attending St. Adalbert’s and St. Joe High School. She graduated from IUSB and has taught at St. Jude for ten years. She enjoys watching her 4 children participate in sports and other extracurricular activities. Katy also likes spending time with her family and shopping. She was inspired to become a teacher as a little girl. She always pictured herself teaching in a Catholic school and passing along the faith as her parents did for her. Mrs. Burnham uses different techniques to differentiate instruction for her first graders and carefully tracks the progress of each child. She is enthusiastic about all the new things that first graders have to learn as they begin their grade school years.

Welcome First Grade Parents and friends!!I

We are entering into the busiest time of the year. It seems like there is always something going on each day when we near the end of the year. Please continue to work hard each day with your child. It is important that the stories are read and the homework is completed. Please check your child's homework even if he/she seems to know what they are doing. While I am grading papers I can always tell who's parents checked it before putting it in their backpack.

I will be sending home a note soon with all of the important dates to remember in late May and early June. I do know that the "Honor the 8th grade" Mass will be Thursday, May 31st. Your child will have a short phrase to read after Mass and will sing a song with their 8th grade buddy.  The day before will be our field trip to the zoo with our buddies. More information will be coming home soon.

We have completed the I-Read test for 1st grade. I will be sending home a copy of the results soon. We also will be completing our last IND reading test for the year this week. Please get in touch with me if you have any questions about the results of these tests. I am happy to meet with anyone who would like to discuss the results.

We will be having literature circles this Friday. The story we are using this week is The Little Red Hen!. Your child has his/her job in their take home folder. Please get in touch with me if you have any questions. Please make sure your child is prepared to share by Friday. That's all for this week. Have a safe and wonderful spring break.
